Someone in the community we work was talking to us about issues of globalization and consequences of free market economics. He first won my attention quickly by saying:
"Antes había guerras por oro y guano, y ahora son por el agua."
(Before there were wars over gold and guano, and now they're for the water.)
And then this one:
"Peru es como una quinceañera--todos quieren enamorarse con ella (Chile, Brasil, Bolivia..)
(Peru is like fifteen year old girl--everyone wants to fall in love with her.)
